Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As people of faith, we understand that stewardship is not about a season, dates blocked out on our calendars, or a pledge card. Stewardship is a way of living-every single day. Stewardship is believing in one God who created the universe and all that is within it, also believing that God has entrusted the care of all creation to us-humans with the breath of divine air pulsing through us. And yet, part of being wise stewards is visioning, planning, preparing and giving attention to how we can offer our resources, in thanksgiving, for God’s purpose and plan. Thus, we do actually have a season, some dates, monetary pledge cards, gifts and skills commitment forms, and we call this a Stewardship Campaign. This year, we turn our hearts to two passages of scripture as reminders that, not only are we to follow the words and ways of our Lord, we are, with those words and ways called to go and do likewise to others; and, whatever we give-money, time, care, mercy, energy, skills-we give out of gratitude, not compulsion or coercion. We give from cheerful hearts, as our Triune God gives to us. This year we have chosen Luke 10: 25-37 and 2 Corinthians 9:7 as our verses for the 2023 campaign.

Jesus asked of the lawyer, “Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?”
The lawyer answered, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
Luke 10:25-37
Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7

2 Corinthians 9:7
These verses are so applicable because this year we have focused on how your generosity has supported our various ministries and thereby touched the lives of people in our local community and the larger community of believers. The 2023 pledge, time and talent form is available on the church website to be filled in and submitted online or printed out and mailed in, and is being distributed at the Stewardship luncheon on November 6th. Here is a link to view the 2023 budget. The committee recommends that all members who have internet access fill out the online pledge form. Paper forms will be mailed to members who don’t pick them up on November 6.
Please pray about what God is calling you to commit for next year in financial, time and prayer support for the Lord’s work at Eastminster and submit your pledge, time and talent form. Commitment Sunday is November 13 when we will joyfully offer the gifts of our hearts, lives and resources as we dedicate all to the glory of God.
May the Spirit bring to us the joy of giving, the gift of laughter, and cheerful hearts because we are, following God’s will through the words and ways of Jesus, “going and doing likewise.”
Your Stewardship Committee,
Jim Lee, chair, David Anderson, Tony Bennett, Cindy Garrett, Dick Knox, Darlene West
