Worship Service for 12/6/2020
GREETINGS!
Welcome to this Second Sunday of Advent to Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Dallas. In this season of waiting, I came across a quote that speaks to the messages of our scriptures today, particularly as we remember again, John the Baptizer. It says: Making our lives ready is more than the absence of horrendous sins, it is the presence of generosity, absence of the preoccupation with self.
*With gratitude, I thank Denise and Tony, Hannah, Becky and Mason, and this week, the Veloz family, Denise, Alek, Sophia, Michael and Victoria for their parts in worship leadership. It is such a joy to hear the voices of those we are missing by sight.
*The last few weeks have been filled with deaths, births and marriages…the full circle of life. Today, we continue to remember and give thanksgiving to God for the lives of Jenelle Symns, Barbara Wyatt and Lewis Thiebaud. At this writing, the service for Jenelle should be posted on our YouTube and Eastminster web pages for you to view as you have time. At this point, plans are being made for a virtual service for Barbara sometime the week of December 14. The Thiebaud family is in the process of making plans for Lewis’ memorial service, a small gathering, and as more details are finalized, we will let you know.
*We celebrated the wedding of Karli Gibbs and Chase Elliot last Sunday, November 29 and wish the best as they begin their new life together.
*Gary and I are beyond joyful to share the news that our third granddaughter, Elaina (Lainey) Marie Holloman made her entrance into the world on November 28th. She joins cousins, Molly and Morgan…and all are healthy and cute as buttons! Thanks be to God!
*Just a reminder that during this time of continued separation, we continue being the church. Our Christmas Village, modified as a drive through event, will take place on Saturday, December 12th. Thank you to ALL who have made this happen this year! On the 4th Sunday of Advent, we will be blessed to have our traditional Lessons and Carols Service, with the choir taking the lead on both music and readings; my gratitude for you all. And, we are still in creative planning mode for a Christmas Eve Service and will share the final plan as it is known.
As we wait together from all of our holy places, may our hearts be warmed as we join together in prayer.
