Worship Service for 2/21/2021
Please forgive my reference to the season of Advent as I begin the service, and feel free to chuckle. It has indeed been a week. Pastor Sherry
GREETING!
Good morning from Eastminster Presbyterian Church, via our home, as we begin our Lenten journey, aware of God's steadfast love helping us to overcome the trials and temptations which can descend on us at any time, and descend they have. I have been praying about this service, not even sure if it would or could happen. As we know, and all across the country know, power and water have been in short or no supply in Texas, and we have faced the harsh realities of what that affects in so many ways. There are many ways to approach the service today, but I have decided that to continue the scripture lessons for today with an “adjusted” service is the will of the Spirit. In a time of such hurt, despair, anger and fear, it is always faithful to return to the Lord and the Word of the Lord. Out of this humbling experience, I pray we do follow the words of 2 Chronicles 7: 14: If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
*Our prayers continue for Randy Cherry, Vicki Thiebaud's brother, who has now been placed in the Intensive Care Unit with trach and feeding tubes following partial removal of a lung.
*We pray for all across our state whose lives have been turned upside down, whose shelter and security have been stripped away and whose hearts and souls are broken because of the loss of loved ones from this unprecedented cold, from human errors and for a virus that refuses to be tamed. And we extend that prayer to all affected all across our world.
*We give thanksgiving for the tireless work of all first responders in all professionals and for every neighbor, family, friend and stranger who has reached out to bring physical, emotional and spiritual comfort to so many. They have been the face of our Lord to one another.
*At Eastminster, we give thanksgiving to all who prayed, made phone calls, loaned brooms, shop vacs, and spend hours moving a moutain of water out of our flooded building. We are grateful that the sanctuary, courtyard classrooms and the office remained dry.
May the God of hope hold us in these times of despair and remind us of the joy of our salvation in Jesus Christ and the comfort of Spirit as we journey one day at a time.
