Worship Service for 6/28/2020
We come from scattered places, and even many of us from scattered lives. But, we come for the same purpose, to worship God, to better understand the ways of Jesus and to pray for the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit to live as we were created and love as we have been loved. Good morning Eastminster and friends! This is the day the Lord has made, we rejoice and give thanks!
A big thank you to Matt and Brittney Bennett who are helping lead worship this morning! And my continued heart-deep thank you to Fred for his dedication, his perseverance, his leadership in worship each and every week, all behind the scenes, but made beautiful before our eyes. Thank you! And to Chandra, the office continues to roll on with whatever tasks I and we put before her, so Chandra, thank you. And, a shout out to Minerva who is continuing to keep the building clean until that time when we will do a deep clean upon re-entry and who makes sure our plants get a drink of cold water!
As you know, the Session previously approved the Re-Entry Task Force recommendation of a “TARGET” in-person worship date of July 5. The Task Force has continued meeting weekly, assessing the information regarding COVID19. The Task Force is presenting a revised recommendation to the session based on the latest upward trends at the Stated Session meeting on Sunday. Following the decision from the session, you will be receiving an update sometime next week.
JOYS AND CONCERNS
At this writing, Susie Fielding is scheduled to come home today. Thanks be to God, the blockages were minimum and no further surgery was required. But, please continue to keep her in your prayers as they search for answers for shortness of breath.
Melissa Whitley’s friend, David Johannes, continues his recovery after his fall.
We continue to remember Cissi, mother of Jenny Knox and all the family as cancer continues to weaken her body.
In the loss of her father, we offer prayers for Cheryl Speck.
Lewis and Vicki Gayle remain in our prayers as we pray for healing, strength, and patience as infusions continue.
Prayers of thanksgiving for continued recoveries from COVID 19 and return to health for Bobbe, Tim and Cissy.
PRAYER
Let us never give up praying for justice, or the oppressed in this world will one day ask us ‘Why?’ Let us never give up praying for fairness, or the hungry of this world will one day ask us ‘Why? ’Let us never give up praying for healing, or the sick in this world will one day ask us ‘Why?’ Let us never give up praying, for to give up is to deny our faith in a God who answers prayer. Lord, hear our prayers:
Gracious God, you are a God of hospitality; there is none like you that invites all to come to you. You have invited all to your home, to your table, and to your arms. Lord, would that all would hear and receive this good news. Help us to remember that no one is better than anyone else in your Kingdom. Help us to then treat each other the way you treat people. Generous God, because you treat us with your tender love, we take time to pray for our friends, family members and others who need you more than ever. Pour out your healing on all who need it. Be generous with your transforming love for those who need it in their lives. Bring forth your reconciliation in families, and in places where it is needed.
Gifting God, you give us the gifts of the spirit to use to further your Kingdom and to be the Body of Christ in the world. We take time to remember our family and friends, your world and all leaders, your church in this and every place. We silence our lips, minds, and body in these moments. Thank you for the restoration that has and is already taking place. Empower us to continue to be your hands and feet to continue the work that needs to be done there and in so many other places.
There is none like you God in your love, your generosity, your gifting and your hospitality. And we thank you that you are in our lives, working in us and through us to let people know your kingdom is open to all. In the name of your Son, who opened the doors for all and broke down barriers that kept people from you, Amen.
