Worship Service for 8/09/2020
Greeting
From the God who walks and talks with us, who reminds us that we are his children, the God whose love, in our joys and in our sorrows is never separated from us because of the life-giving sacrifice of Jesus, says this morning, “Welcome my children!”
Announcements
A big Thank You! to Chandra Anderson for serving as our liturgist this week. Chandra always brings a smile and extra measure of joy when she leads! For Fred’s unwavering commitment to make worship a holy and joy-filled experience, adding a bit of his own creative gifts and skills, thank you!
Children’s Sunday School is happening SUNDAY! If you would like your child or grand/great child to participant, please contact Sherry for more information. Thank you Lilly Pappas for leading these Zoom lessons for the month of August.
Prayers
PSALM OF PRAISE (Psalm 96)
O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.

Prayers
- Please keep members of the Re-Entry Task Force in prayer as we continue to listen for the guidance of the Spirit for a safe return to in-person worship, even as we pray for spiritual health in our time apart: Paul McLin, Denise Bennett, Vicki Cook, Michele Pappas and Kathy Kreger. Pastor Sherry serves as an invited member of the Task Force.
- We ask God’s continuing guidance and care for all educational leaders, teachers, parents (grands and great-grands) and children as the new school year opens in a variety of ways. May the greatest of health protections lead to the greatest learning opportunities.
- We keep Naomi Davis in prayer as her heart continues its irregular rhythm and grows weaker. We surround Chandra with prayer as she offers care and love to her mother.
- Sylvia Falcon remains in the hospital, but prayers as the medical staff makes decisions about her move to rehabilitation, and prayers for Tom as he waits lovingly and prayerfully to be with her again.
- Prayers of peace for the Whitley family as their Uncle Curtis, 93, has passed away. Prayers of thanksgiving that Jacob and Tom were not affected by COVID19.
- For our neighbor’s across the country and globe whose lives have been affected by natural disaster, human-made evil, and unexpected accidents.
