Worship Service for 9/13/2020
Welcome
A woman bought a parrot for a pet, but the parrot treated her badly. It insulted her and tried to peck her arms. One day, fed up with the insults, she decided the parrot needed to “cool his beak” a bit, and then they would have a much-needed conversation about respect. So, into the freezer he went. Still, the insults kept coming for several seconds, then silence. “Oh no, I’ve killed my parrot!” She opened the door and the parrot looked at her with big, wide eyes, and finally said, "I'm very sorry. I apologize for my bad behavior and promise you there will be no more of that. From now on I will be a respectful, obedient parrot." "Well OK" she said. "apology accepted". The parrot said, "Thank you". Then he said, "Can I ask you something?" She said, "Yes, what?" The parrot looked at the freezer and asked, "What did the chicken do?"
As important as a conversation about respect was needed, so too was a much-needed conversation about forgiving and being forgiven. Forgiveness is a heart-changer! And the One who can change our hearts is Jesus. I invite you to worship with us as we hear the story of the Unforgiving Servant from Matthew’s gospel.
C. S Lewis wrote, “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.” We forgive because we have been forgiven. Perhaps that is a much-needed conversation we need to have with others, as well as with ourselves. Most likely, we will need to have it at least 7 x 70 times!
May our hearts worship together!
