Worship Service for 6/14/2020
From our God who was, is and will ever be, welcome to worship this Lord’s Day from Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas. If you are watching for the first time or joining us again, may wherever you are be filled with the Spirit’s power of community with one another.
*The Gleaners Class will begin virtually meeting this Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. They will continue to use The Present Word curriculum. This first meeting will be a mixture of “meet and greet” and a synopsis of the lessons from June 7 and 14. Lesson books have been mailed to the current active class roll; however, if you wish to receive a book, let Sherry know. Minus a book this week, we invite you to read Proverbs 1 and 2 and Genesis 39 in preparation for class.
*The class led by Blair Garrett will also resume this Sunday, running from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The class will continue studying the book of Mark and ask that in preparation for class this week you read chapters 13 and 14. If you are new to the class or need a refresher, you are invited to read the first 12 chapters.
*The Searchers Class is meeting in person, practicing social distancing and other safety measures. They are gathering at 9:30 a.m. in the backyard of Tom and Michele Pappas. They are exploring the history of heaven and hell, using scripture, discussion, video and printed materials. You are invited to remain after class to watch the worship service virtually.
Virtual worship has been a HUGE learning curve for me, and I continue to be grateful for Fred’s knowledge and guidance as he has helped me and many of us navigate these new waters. But, it is now time again for a leap of faith. Often times the responses I receive about worship leadership revolve around two issues: uncertainty about how to navigate the technology and “I don’t want to be seen or heard on video!”
Again, a huge uncomfortable learning curve for me also. I understand your concerns. So, I am once again asking for that leap of faith. You will not be left without help regarding technology and anytime we have the opportunity to see a face or hear a voice of a brother or sister in Christ, we are blessed. If you are interested in, and willing to participate in virtual worship leadership, let me know.
On this and every day, may the Lord bless and keep us. May the Lord’s face shine upon us. May the Lord be gracious to us and give us peace. Amen

- As we continue to remember one another in prayer, we add these requests: thanksgiving for the healing taking place for Bettye Clark’s grand daughter, Katherine, following surgery for a condition called Chiari which causes brain tissue to extend into the spinal canal; prayers for Rick Brooks, pastor of St. Mark who suffered a concussion from a fall; and prayers for Drew Travis, pastor of FPC, Granbury and the keynote speaker for this year’s virtual Synod Youth Workshop. Drew is the brother of former pastor of FPC, Ft. Worth, Karl Travis who is now in hospice care. Also, Drew’s son, Dylan, has been in and out of the hospital for unexplained swelling of the brain.
- Continuing to monitor the trends for COVID 19 in Dallas County, we are working behind the scenes to ensure that once we can enter our sanctuary again, it will be with the confidence of safety and health for all. The Re-Entry Task Force meets weekly, and in addition to monitoring weekly information, is drafting a plan of re-entry for presentation to the Session.
- We are venturing out via Zoom and a small group gathering to resume our Sunday School classes. If you are interested in joining any of these classes, please email Sherry at [email protected] and you will be added to the distribution lists.

- We also invite you to visit our website at www.eastminsterdallas.org or go to our Facebook page to find information about these offerings. As other activities and events can resume we will post them. Always remember, though, that even while we are apart one from another, the Lord is between us, blessing and keeping us.
- Fred, Philis, and Chandra, your work and support for this week’s service has brought joy and peace to my heart. As you will remember, at the beginning of 2020, we began a new model of inviting participation in worship leadership and the response was amazing. Across the ages, many who had never ventured into leadership took a leap of faith and the variety of offerings blessed our worship. Then…COVID19 hit!
