Worship Service for 6/21/2020
From the rising of the sun to its setting the Lord’s name is greatly to be praised. So here we find ourselves in the light of day, God’s people gathered in many places, but embraced by the same Spirit. Welcome to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Dallas. In these continuing times of distancing, I invite you to make every effort to be part of a worshiping community, whether that be Eastminster or another church. In a time, such as ours, communities of faith stand ready to welcome you more than ever. May we continue to keep each other close in heart and prayer.
Today we give thanksgiving for Bobbe Brown’s continued recovery. We give thanks for a successful liver transplant for Connie, Denise Bennett’s cousin, and keep her in prayer during this time of recovery.
For our fathers, grandfathers, greats and for all men, we give thanksgiving this day and ask for God’s guiding hand for them in a world where being a role model is not an easy thing to do.
We continue to offer prayers for those family and friends whose names have been lifted and we add these prayers: For neighbors of Tom and Michele Pappas, Julie and Todd, as Todd has experienced a reoccurrence of cancer. We lift Paul McLin’s Aunt Dorothy, 97, who has been diagnosed with COVID19. Soleil’s dad continues to be in a medically induced coma as he suffers with this virus also.
And while we continue, each day, to give thanksgiving to God for the very gift of life and goodness and the beauty that surrounds us, we are also aware of the many evils that seek to draw our attention away from God’s good. So, for all who govern, lead, follow, make decisions about, and protect the lives of others, Lord, bring our hearts and hands back to you.
Lord, hear our prayers:
We ask your blessing upon all fathers and all men who seek to be the spiritual role models that you have called them to be. Remind them that they work not alone in their tasks but walk alongside you and a host of others willing to help and support them. We pray that you will create in them a deep trust and teach them how to meet the needs of those in their care within their abilities, and then trust you for the rest. Give them passionate faith, a persevering spirit, and a powerful testimony to your love. Fill them this and every day with the best of your blessings.
For our world, our leaders, for all who serve and protect this beautiful world and the blessings of our lives, stir and move in them, and us, in such a way that we understand that divided we will all fall. For this congregation, our brothers and sisters in Christ, your people, God, bring us back to you! Teach us how to be followers and doers of the way the Lord modeled for us. And in that modeling comes compassion and care. Accept our gratitude for the joys in Bobbe’s and Connie’s lives and hear the pleas of our hearts for Julie and Todd, for Dorothy, Tim, and for all those who names remain on our lips and in our hearts. Hear now the prayers of each of our hearts. Amen
We invite you to visit our website at www.eastminsterdallas.org or our Facebook page for opportunities beyond Sunday morning worship.
May our family and friends of Eastminster, and all our guests this morning be filled with the comforting presence of the Spirit as we offer thanksgiving to God and lift before God the concerns of our lives.
